Quake III Arena (also known as Quake 3; abbreviated as Q3A or Q3), is a multiplayer first-person shooter computer and video game released on December 2, 1999. The game was developed by id Software and featured music composed by Sonic Mayhem and Front Line Assembly.

If people haven't started thinking about the current crop of smartphones as computers, maybe this will help: Quake III Arena (Q3A) ported to the Android platform. If a device can run a custom port of Id Software's legendary first person shooter, surely it qualifies as a computer more than a phone.

One year ago today, id Software launched their open beta of Quake Live, their browser-based multiplayer shooter based on their 1999 game Quake III Arena.

What a fantastic idea this was by id Software to create a fully functional first-person shooter to run from a web-browser using the id Tech 3 engine. The game is a variant of its predecessor, Quake III Arena (Q3A) only a much more improved version by improving the graphics and making the game play much more balanced
